Why MAX

The original
BuildPro table

MAX is the BuildPro production table. A thick, slotless plate top on a bolt-together frame, with Ø5/8" holes on 2" centers across the whole surface — every clamp, stop and square in the Strong Hand Tools 5/8" system locks straight in from above.

The top is a set of reversible, self-locating plates. When a plate is worn or spattered, lift it off, flip it 180° and drop it back on its bushings. Choose a standard plain-steel top, or a nitrided top for spatter, rust and wear resistance. The full build is in the tech specs.

Choose from four sizes, from 4' × 4' to 8' × 4', then pick the legs: two fixed heights, adjustable, or adjustable with casters. Tabletops are also sold on their own.

Load capacities are static ratings. Every 5/8" series takes the same Strong Hand Tools 5/8" clamps, stops and squares; 28 mm tooling is a separate system.

Construction

What the tabletop is made of

Thick, reversible plates on a bolt-together frame. The same build on every size, in two finishes.

    Ø0.625" (15.88 mm) holes every 2" (50.8 mm), CNC machined and chamfered, across the whole top. No slots — a full grid to the edge.

    0.630" steel plate

    0.630" (16 mm) medium carbon steel, machined flat to ±0.005" over any 24" × 24". The same plate as MAX Slotted, without the slots.

    Two finishes

    Standard or nitrided

    Standard is plain steel; nitrided is heat-treated to HV 550 for weld-spatter, corrosion and wear resistance. Same plate, same holes — standard on the left, nitrided on the right.

    Flip a worn plate

    Lift a plate off, turn it 180° and set it back. The other face becomes the new working surface — patented, U.S. Pat. 8065967.

    Bushing system

    Plates locate on bushings, not bolts. Remove, re-position, re-align or reverse a plate and it drops back into the same grid.

    Bolt-together frame

    Plates sit on a cross-braced underframe; the tabletop stands 6-1/4" (159 mm) tall at the edge. The square legs bolt to the frame through a flange, so legs can change later.

Every MAX ships on 3.3" square, bolt-on legs. The letters are the leg part of the table part number; the legs are also sold on their own.

    3.3" (84 mm) square steel tube with Ø5/8" holes on 2" (50.8 mm) centers down the leg, so fixturing tools clamp to the legs too.

Questions, answered

Straight answers on table height, finishes, tabletops, older tables and pricing.

How tall is the finished table?
Leg height plus the 6-1/4" tabletop. With the 30-1/4" fixed legs the top sits about 36-1/2" off the floor; with the 24-1/4" legs, about 30-1/2". The adjustable legs move the top through a 10" range.
Standard or nitrided — which finish do I pick?
Same plate, same holes; the nitrided top adds a hardened surface. Standard is plain medium carbon steel. Nitrided is heat-treated to HV 550 for weld-spatter, corrosion and wear resistance. Pick the finish above the collection grid and it carries over to the table page.
Can I buy the tabletop without legs?
Yes. Every size is sold as a tabletop on its own in either finish (part numbers ending in V), for mounting on a lift, a positioner or a frame of your own.
Can I change legs later, or add casters?
Yes. The four square legs are sold separately. They bolt on through the same flange, so a fixed-leg table can move to adjustable or caster legs.
My MAX has the yellow round legs. What fits it?
The round legs and their braces, while supplies last. Older MAX tables use 3" round legs; the round table legs and the Leg Brace Assembly for them are legacy items. Those tables are also still listed as the 4' × 4' and 5' × 3' R1 models, and the tabletops page carries an "Older (Yellow Legs)" option. The square legs on this page are made for the current MAX tabletops.
